Check out this CG shortfilm by Alex Roman depicting Louis Kahn’s Phillips Exeter Academy Library. It’s one in a series of videos he’s put together and they are all absolutely fantastic. Seriously epic. Be sure to browse the “making of” video as well for a sneak peak behind the scenes.
Browsing the various decade-end music lists that have been cropping up all over the place over the last few months, I thought it’d be a good idea to post a few of the more creatively inclined music videos that I’ve come across. These aren’t your run-of-the-mill MTV videos (not that they play that kind of stuff anymore anyway), but rather works of art in their own right.
This first one is the incredibly fascinating music video for the song Dayvan Cowboy by Boards of Canada off their 2005 release, The Campfire Headphase (directed by Melissa Olson). The montage of clips at the beginning is footage from Project Excelsior, which was a series of high-altitude (as in 20 miles high) parachute jumps made by Joe Kittinger of the USAF in 1959. Besides offering stunning clips of an almost unbelievable experiment, the video does a great job of capturing that 60’s/70’s nostalgic sound that BoC does so well with their music.
If you’ve ever been in a moving vehicle and attempted to synchronize a song’s beat with various roadside signage, you’ll love this one. Even if you’ve never had that urge, you can’t help but be amazed by this video for Star Guitar by The Chemical Brothers (directed by Michel Gondry). Hypnotic to say the least.
This last one is an architect’s dream, and unless you’ve been designing in a box over the past few years, you’ve probably already seen this Röyksopp video (directed by Ludovic Houplan/Hervé de Crécy) over a dozen times. However, it’s one of those few videos that is so amazing in its visual simplicity and clarity that it’s definitely worth another watch.
